1 Jesus was leaving the temple. One of his disciples said to him, ‘Look, Teacher! What huge stones! What wonderful buildings!’ 2 ‘Do you see these huge buildings?’ Jesus asked. ‘Not one stone here will be left on top of another. Every stone will be thrown down.’ 3 Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives, opposite the temple. Peter, James, John and Andrew asked him a question in private. 4 ‘Tell us’, they said. ‘When will these things happen? And what will be the sign that they are all about to come true?’ 5 Jesus said to them, ‘Keep watch! Be careful that no one fools you. 6 Many will come in my name. They will claim, “I am he.” They will fool many people. 7 You will hear about wars. You will also hear people talking about future wars. Don’t be alarmed. These things must happen. But the end still isn’t here. 8 Nation will fight against nation. Kingdom will fight against kingdom. There will be earthquakes in many places. People will go hungry. All these things are the beginning of birth-pains. 9 ‘Watch out! You will be handed over to the local courts. You will be whipped in the synagogues. You will stand in front of governors and kings because of me. In that way you will be witnesses to them. 10 The good news has to be preached to all nations before the end comes. 11 You will be arrested and brought to trial. But don’t worry in advance about what you will say. Just say what God brings to your mind at the time. It is not you speaking, but the Holy Spirit. 12 ‘Brothers will hand over brothers to be killed. Fathers will hand over their children. Children will rise up against their parents and have them put to death. 13 Everyone will hate you because of me. But the one who remains strong in the faith will be saved. 14 ‘You will see “the hated thing that destroys.” It will stand where it does not belong. The reader should understand this. Then those who are in Judea should escape to the mountains. 15 No one on the roof should go down into the house to take anything out. 16 No one in the field should go back to get their coat. 17 How awful it will be in those days for pregnant women! How awful for nursing mothers! 18 Pray that this will not happen in winter. 19 Those days will be worse than any others from the time God created the world until now. And there will never be any like them again. 20 ‘If the Lord had not cut the time short, no one would live. But because of God’s chosen people, he has shortened it. 21 At that time someone may say to you, “Look! Here is the Messiah!” Or, “Look! There he is!” Do not believe it. 22 False messiahs and false prophets will appear. They will do signs and miracles. They will try to fool God’s chosen people if possible. 23 Keep watch! I have told you everything in advance. 24 ‘So in those days there will be terrible suffering. After that, Scripture says, ‘ “The sun will be darkened. The moon will not shine. 25 The stars will fall from the sky. The heavenly bodies will be shaken.” 26 ‘At that time people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds. He will come with great power and glory. 27 He will send his angels. He will gather his chosen people from all four directions. He will bring them from the ends of the earth to the ends of the heavens. 28 ‘Learn a lesson from the fig tree. As soon as its twigs get tender and its leaves come out, you know that summer is near. 29 In the same way, when you see these things happening, you know that the end is near. It is right at the door. 30 What I’m about to tell you is true. The people living now will certainly not pass away until all those things have happened. 31 Heaven and earth will pass away. But my words will never pass away. 32 ‘But no one knows about that day or hour. Not even the angels in heaven know. The Son does not know. Only the Father knows. 33 Keep watch! Stay awake! You do not know when that time will come. 34 It’s like a man going away. He leaves his house and puts his servants in charge. Each one is given a task to do. He tells the one at the door to keep watch. 35 ‘So keep watch! You do not know when the owner of the house will come back. It may be in the evening or at midnight. It may be when the cockerel crows or at dawn. 36 He may come suddenly. So do not let him find you sleeping. 37 What I say to you, I say to everyone. “Watch!” ’	1 Als Jesus danach den Tempel verließ, sagte einer seiner Jünger zu ihm: »Lehrer, sieh doch nur diese gewaltigen Steine und diese prachtvollen Gebäude!« 2 Da sagte Jesus: »Du bewunderst diese mächtigen Bauten? Hier wird kein Stein auf dem andern bleiben. Alles wird bis auf den Grund zerstört werden!« 3 Dann ging Jesus auf den Ölberg. Dort setzte er sich dem Tempel gegenüber nieder. Petrus, Jakobus, Johannes und Andreas waren bei ihm. Sie fragten ihn: 4 »Sag uns, wann wird das geschehen? Und woran können wir erkennen, dass das Ende von allem bevorsteht?« 5 Jesus sagte zu ihnen: »Seid auf der Hut und lasst euch von niemand täuschen! 6 Viele werden unter meinem Namen auftreten und von sich behaupten: ›Ich bin es!‹ Damit werden sie viele irreführen. 7 Erschreckt nicht, wenn nah und fern Kriege ausbrechen. Es muss so kommen, aber das ist noch nicht das Ende. 8 Ein Volk wird gegen das andere kämpfen, ein Staat den andern angreifen. In vielen Ländern wird es Erdbeben und Hungersnöte geben. Das ist aber erst der Anfang vom Ende – der Beginn der Geburtswehen.« 9 »Was euch angeht, so seid darauf gefasst, dass sie euch an die Gerichte ausliefern und in den Synagogen auspeitschen werden. Auch vor Statthaltern und Königen werdet ihr stehen um meinetwillen, um auch vor ihnen als Zeugen für mich auszusagen; 10 denn nach Gottes Plan muss die Gute Nachricht allen Völkern verkündet werden, bevor das Ende kommt. 11 Wenn sie euch verhaften und an die Gerichte ausliefern, dann macht euch keine Sorgen, wie ihr euch verteidigen sollt. Sagt, was euch in dem Augenblick eingegeben wird. Denn nicht ihr werdet dann reden, sondern der Heilige Geist wird aus euch sprechen. 12 Ein Bruder wird den andern dem Henker ausliefern und ein Vater seine Kinder. Kinder werden sich gegen ihre Eltern stellen und sie in den Tod schicken. 13 Alle Menschen werden euch hassen, weil ihr euch zu mir bekennt. Aber wer bis zum Ende standhaft bleibt, wird gerettet werden.« 14 »In den Heiligen Schriften ist die Rede von einem ›entsetzlichen Scheusal‹ – wer das liest, überlege sich, was es bedeutet! Wenn ihr dieses ›entsetzliche Scheusal‹ dort stehen seht, wo es nicht stehen darf, dann sollen die Bewohner Judäas in die Berge fliehen. 15 Wer gerade auf dem Dach ist, soll keine Zeit damit verlieren, erst noch etwas aus dem Haus zu holen. 16 Wer gerade zur Arbeit auf dem Feld ist, soll nicht zurückgehen, um noch sein Obergewand mitzunehmen, das er am Wegrand abgelegt hat. 17 Besonders hart wird es die Frauen treffen, die gerade ein Kind erwarten oder einen Säugling stillen. 18 Bittet Gott, dass es dann nicht gerade Winter ist! 19 Denn was in jenen Tagen geschieht, wird furchtbarer sein als alles, was jemals geschah, seit Gott die Welt erschuf, und als alles, was bis dahin noch geschehen wird. 20 Wenn der Herr diese Schreckenszeit nicht abkürzen würde, dann würde kein Mensch gerettet werden. Er wird sie aber abkürzen – denen zuliebe, die er erwählt hat. 21 Wenn dann jemand zu euch sagt: ›Seht her, hier ist Christus, der versprochene Retter!‹, oder: 22 Denn es werden so manche mit dem Anspruch auftreten, der versprochene Retter oder ein Prophet zu sein. Sie werden sich durch aufsehenerregende Wunder ausweisen und würden damit sogar die von Gott Erwählten irreführen, wenn das möglich wäre. 23 Darum seid auf der Hut! Ich habe euch alles vorausgesagt.« 24 »Aber dann, nach dieser Schreckenszeit, wird sich die Sonne verfinstern und der Mond wird nicht mehr scheinen, 25 die Sterne werden vom Himmel fallen und die Ordnung des Himmels wird zusammenbrechen. 26 Dann kommt der Menschensohn auf den Wolken mit göttlicher Macht und Herrlichkeit, und alle werden ihn sehen. 27 Er wird die Engel in alle Himmelsrichtungen ausschicken, um von überall her die Menschen zusammenzubringen, die er erwählt hat.« 28 »Am Beispiel des Feigenbaums könnt ihr etwas lernen: Wenn der Saft in die Zweige schießt und der Baum Blätter treibt, dann wisst ihr, dass der Sommer bald da ist. 29 So ist es auch, wenn ihr dies alles geschehen seht: Dann wisst ihr, dass das Ende unmittelbar bevorsteht. 30 Ich versichere euch: Diese Generation wird das alles noch erleben. 31 Himmel und Erde werden vergehen, aber meine Worte vergehen nicht; sie bleiben gültig für immer und ewig.« 32 »Doch den Tag oder die Stunde, wann das Ende da ist, kennt niemand, auch nicht die Engel im Himmel – nicht einmal der Sohn. Nur der Vater kennt sie. 33 Seht zu, dass ihr wach bleibt! Denn ihr wisst nicht, wann der Zeitpunkt da ist. 34 Es ist wie bei einem Mann, der verreist. Er verlässt sein Haus und überträgt seinen Dienern die Verantwortung. Jedem weist er seine Aufgabe zu, und dem Türhüter befiehlt er, wachsam zu sein. 35 So sollt auch ihr wach bleiben, weil ihr nicht wisst, wann der Hausherr kommen wird: am Abend, um Mitternacht, beim ersten Hahnenschrei oder wenn die Sonne aufgeht. 36 Wenn er kommt, soll er euch nicht im Schlaf überraschen! 37 Was ich euch vier Jüngern hier sage, das gilt für alle: Bleibt wach!«	1 Quel giorno, mentre Gesù usciva dal tempio, uno dei suoi discepoli disse: «Maestro, guarda che costruzioni meravigliose! E che decorazioni sulle pareti!» 2 Gesù rispose: «Guarda pure ora, perché non sarà lasciata una sola pietra sullʼaltra, ma soltanto delle rovine!» 3-4 Più tardi, quando si sedette sul Monte degli Ulivi, di fronte al tempio, Pietro, Giacomo, Giovanni e Andrea, in disparte, gli chiesero: «Quandʼè che accadrà tutto questo al tempio? Ci saranno prima degli avvertimenti?» 5 Allora Gesù cominciò a dire ai discepoli: «Non lasciatevi ingannare da nessuno! 6 Perché se ne presenteranno molti che si proclameranno vostro Messia, e ne inganneranno tanti. 7 Quando sentirete parlare di guerre vicine o lontane, non abbiate paura, sono cose che devono accadere, ma non sarà ancora il segnale della fine. 8 Nazioni e regni si dichiareranno guerra lʼuno contro lʼaltro; e ci saranno terremoti e carestie in molti paesi. Queste cose annunceranno soltanto gli inizi dei dolori. 9 Ma quando cominceranno ad accadere, fate attenzione, perché sarete in grave pericolo! Sarete trascinati davanti ai tribunali e picchiati nelle sinagoghe. Per causa mia, sarete accusati davanti ai re e ai governatori. Avrete così lʼoccasione di parlar loro del Vangelo, 10 la Buona Notizia che devʼessere divulgata su tutta la terra prima che vengano i giorni della fine. 11 E quando verrete arrestati e processati, non preoccupatevi di ciò che direte in vostra difesa. Dite soltanto ciò che Dio vi suggerirà in quel momento. Non sarete voi a parlare, ma lo Spirito Santo. 12 Il fratello tradirà a morte il proprio fratello, i padri tradiranno i propri figli, e i figli si ribelleranno ai genitori e li faranno morire. 13 E tutti vi odieranno perché siete miei. Ma tutti quelli che resisteranno fino alla fine senza rinnegarmi saranno salvati. 14 Quando vedrete la “cosa orribile” compiuta nel luogo ove mai dovrebbe accadere, (chi legge, cerchi di capire!) allora quelli che sono in Giudea scappino sui monti. 15-16 E in fretta! Se vi trovate sulla terrazza, non scendete più in casa per prendere qualcosa. Se siete fuori nei campi, non tornate indietro, nemmeno per prendere denaro o vestiti! 17 Guai alle donne incinte in quei giorni, e alle madri che allattano i figli! 18 E pregate che la vostra fuga non avvenga dʼinverno, 19 perché quelli saranno giorni di tale orrore, come non ce ne sono mai stati fin dallʼinizio della creazione, né mai più ce ne saranno! 20 E se il Signore non abbreviasse quel periodo di sciagure, nessuno sopravviverebbe. Ma per amore dei suoi prescelti Dio ha accorciato il numero di quei giorni. 21 E allora, se qualcuno vi dice: “Il Messia è questo qui!” oppure: “No, è quello là!” Voi non fidatevi! 22 Perché si presenteranno molti falsi cristi e falsi profeti che compiranno miracoli meravigliosi per ingannare, se fosse possibile, perfino i figli di Dio. 23 State attenti! Vi ho avvertito! 24 Dopo la fine delle tribolazioni “il sole si oscurerà e la luna non risplenderà più, 25 le stelle cadranno dal cielo e le potenze dei cieli saranno sconvolte”. 26 Allora tutta lʼumanità vedrà me, il Messia, venire nelle nuvole con grande potenza e gloria. 27 Ed io manderò i miei angeli in tutte le direzioni a radunare i miei prescelti, dai più lontani confini della terra e del cielo. 28 Ora, ecco una lezione da imparare dallʼalbero del fico. Quando i suoi rami si fanno teneri e spuntano le prime foglie, voi sapete che lʼestate è vicina. 29 Allo stesso modo, quando vedrete accadere queste cose di cui vi ho parlato, potrete essere certi che il mio ritorno è vicinissimo, proprio alle porte. 30 Sì, questi sono gli eventi che segneranno la fine di questa generazione. 31 Il cielo e la terra scompariranno, ma le mie parole resteranno per sempre. 32 Tuttavia, nessuno sa quando verrà quel giorno e quellʼora, non lo sanno gli angeli del cielo, e neppure io, soltanto Dio Padre lo sa. 33 E poiché non sapete quando sarà il momento, state allʼerta (pronti per il mio ritorno). 34 Il mio arrivo può essere paragonato a quello di un uomo partito per un viaggio in un altro paese. Ai suoi dipendenti ha affidato del lavoro da svolgere mentre è lontano, e ha detto al custode di stare pronto per il suo ritorno. 35-37 Ebbene, tenete gli occhi bene aperti, perché non sapete quando verrò: se di sera, a mezzanotte, alle prime ore dellʼalba o a mattina inoltrata. Che non vi trovi addormentati! Siate pronti per il mio ritorno! Questo è ciò che raccomando a voi e a tutti gli altri».
